Kawatsura Lacquerware

Kawatsura Lacquerware - Tortoiseshell Plate

£80.00

Each piece of lacquerware has been passed through the hands of numerous master artisans, every one of which is a specialist at each stage of the process. Incredibly, the production of a single product takes between six months and a year to complete.

Due to the inherent properties of urushiol – a natural resin derived from tree sap that gives the lacquerware its defining high gloss finish – each piece is also naturally antibacterial, antiseptic, heat resistance, insulated and oil resistant.

All Kawatsura lacquerware consists of wood and natural lacquer. And while no single feature is characteristic of the style, great emphasis is placed on the undercoating, which creates a hard finish that is extremely robust.
